The Reskin Checklist: 20 Things to Change Before You Publish a Bought Template
The reskin is not done when the art is swapped. Store review, ad networks and your own liability care about twenty specific things, from the bundle ID to the privacy policy URL. Here is the list we use.
Our step-by-step reskin guide covers the process. This is the checklist for the end of it: the things that must be different from the template you bought before you press publish. Print it, or paste it into your project board.
Identity
- Bundle identifier / package name. Unique to you, reverse-domain, never the template author’s.
- Product name and company name in Player Settings.
- App icon, adaptive icon layers, and the splash screen image.
- Version and build number reset to 1.0 (1).
- Keystore: your own, backed up in two places. A lost keystore is a lost app.
Content
- Every visible texture, sprite and model replaced or restyled. Store reviewers and players both recognise template art.
- UI theme: fonts, colours, button shapes. Free fonts must be licensed for apps; check the font’s licence file.
- Music and sound effects replaced with tracks you have a commercial licence for.
- Level order and difficulty curve adjusted. Same levels in the same order as another store listing reads as a clone.
- Tutorial text and all in-game strings rewritten, including button labels.
- Placeholder or demo content removed: test levels, debug menus, sample ads, the author’s logo.
Monetisation and services
- Ad unit IDs replaced with your own; test IDs removed from every placement.
- IAP product IDs created in your console and matched in code.
- Analytics keys, remote config, and crash reporting pointing at your projects.
- Consent flow (GDPR / ATT) present and tested on a device in an EU region.
Legal
- Privacy policy URL that is yours and that names the SDKs you actually ship.
- Licence terms of the template respected: single licence means one published title. Check the licence terms.
- Third-party assets inside the template accounted for. A template may include assets under their own licence; the listing should say so.
Quality
- Tested on a low-end Android device (2 to 3 GB RAM) for frame rate and memory.
- Store listing screenshots taken from your build, not from the template listing.
Items 1, 5, 12 and 16 are the ones that cause real damage when missed: a wrong bundle ID or a lost keystore can strand an app, and test ad IDs in production get an ad account suspended.
